Work With Us
At Hillbarn Theatre & Conservatory, there are as many ways to get involved as there are people who make up our diverse community. Since 1941, the historic Hillbarn Theatre has served the San Francisco Bay Area by embracing this founding ideal: “To create theatre with the community, for the community.” Hillbarn Theatre produces both MainStage performances, two school year Conservatory productions, and three summer Conservatory productions per season.
We are San Mateo County’s longest running theatre organization whose community roots run deep. We are proud that our work is built on the contributions of our community and patrons. From our tiny but passionate staff, our talented artist community, to our dedicated subscribers and loyal volunteers, and to the students and educators who participate in our varied training programs every year, Hillbarn is a pillar of the community.
We couldn’t do this work without you! Help us secure the future of theater for San Mateo County by learning more about Hillbarn Theatre & Conservatory’s many opportunities for involvement.
Hillbarn Theatre & Conservatory is always accepting submissions for all positions. We are currently actively seeking: Costume Designers, Set Designers, Musicians, Scenic Artists and more. If you are a performer (of any kind!) who would like to submit, please send a cover letter, resume/headshot, and preferably reels that showcase your talent, to: casting@hillbarntheatre.org
Auditions
We are committed now more than ever to rebuilding the foundation of Hillbarn’s casting system and programs so that all artists feel valued, seen, and uplifted. We are dedicated to our continued education and understanding that this is a lifelong commitment.
It is not simply enough to be accepted or welcomed to the table. Theatre is meant to be a reflection of society and our world. It is true that fear, prejudice, and feeling “othered” is a part of our collective experience. However, this should never be reflected in the business and practices of theatre. We want our theatre to be a place where empathy grows and education comes to life.
We pledge to research, problem-solve, and reject the practices and procedures that have existed in this field as a way of silencing and funneling one perspective. We are dedicated to achieving this as well as continuing to listen to our community. Together the stories we tell will make the world a better, more inclusive place.
All in person audition slots for our season generals are currently full! We are accepting video submissions! If you’d like to submit for next season via video please fill out the audition google form and email your video audition, headshot, and resume to casting@hillbarntheatre.org
