Jason Robert Brown’s Songs for a New World is a powerful, song-driven journey through moments of decision, hope, and transformation. This unique theatrical song cycle weaves together a series of characters—each standing on the precipice of change, facing the unknown with courage, fear, and determination. From a Spanish explorer setting sail to a woman contemplating escape from a troubled relationship, each song tells a story of risk, resilience, and the endless possibilities of a new beginning. With a soaring, genre-blending score and deeply emotional storytelling, Songs for a New World is a moving and exhilarating exploration of the choices that shape our lives.
Run time is approximately 2.5 hours, with a 15 minute intermission

Jessica (she/hers) is beyond thrilled to be sharing this incredible music with you all. Previous Hillbarn credits include Elf the Musical & Heathers. Most recently she appeared in 9 to 5 at ROLT, Gravity, a Newtonian musical at BATCO, Guys and Dolls at SF Playhouse, Head Over Heels at Berkeley Playhouse. Some other favorites include Lizzie, Urinetown, Smokey Joe’s Café and Little Shop of Horrors. Jessica studied at AMDA in New York and won several Theater Bay Area Awards for her roles in The Little Mermaid and The Great American Trailer Park Musical. Sophie (she/they) is making her debut at Hillbarn Theatre. In her recent return to the Bay Area, Sophie appeared in Happy Pleasant Valley (Jade) and Miss Bennet (Lydia) at TheatreWorks. She has also performed at Sacramento Music Circus, San Jose Rep, and AMT. Sophie graduated with her BFA from UC Irvine and is a passionate acting teacher. Some of her film credits include NCIS:LA, Hawaii: Five-0, The Big Bang Theory, Disney’s Suite Life of Zack and Cody. IG: @sophieoda
Sidney Matthew(SM) (he/him)is thrilled to return to Hillbarn for Songs For A New World! Recent credits include Cinderella (Prince Topher) at Hillbarn, The Day the Sky Turned Orange (Marcus) with SFBATCO+ZSpace, In the Heights (Benny) at SCP, Jesus Christ Superstar (Simon, u/s Jesus) at SCP, and The Last Five Years (Jamie) with The Pear+SCP. Offstage he works as a software engineer and is a passionate ocean conservationist. Gratitude and love always to his parents and partner, Kamilah!
Coleton makes his return to Hillbarn Theatre after portraying the role of Gleb in Anastasia. Past theater credits include An Enemy of the People (San Jose Stage), The View Upstairs (New Conservatory Theatre Center), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Ray Of Light Theatre), Next to Normal (Jewel Theatre Company), and We Are Proud To Present… (San Jose Stage).
Brigitte (she/hers) is a native Bay Area actress and theatre maker. When Brigitte is not on the stage she is taking your calls managing the Hillbarn Box office. Brigitte Is very excited to be back performing on the Hillbarn stage with such an incredible wealth of bay area talent. Some past roles include Ensemble/swing in Kinky Boots (ROLT), Kelly Manning in The Mad Ones & Heather Chandler in Heathers (PSP), Ali in Mamma Mia (San Jose Stage Co), Poppy in Noises Off (Hillbarn Theatre), Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods (LASC).
