MEET THE CAST:
Today, we shine the spotlight on Steve Repetti who plays the role of Vice Principal Douglas Panch, in our production of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!
Steve is delighted to be returning to the stage after a 20+ year hiatus. Steve was last seen in Foothill’s production of RAGTIME; those approaching the senior generation may recall TheaterWorks’ productions of: WORKING MAN, MAN OF LA MANCHA (Padre), SUNDAY IN THE PARK (Louie), and COMPANY (Bobby). Steve would like to give a shout-out to his wife, Priscilla and daughter, Sam for their unconditional love and support as he “Journey’s On” again.
1. You Play the role of Vice Principal Panch. What do you have in common with the character?
To be honest -it is not a stretch. I’m a nervous neurotic/perfectionist in real life.
2. What made you Audition for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee?
Must confess-I didn’t go through the audition. The Director (A long time friend and theater colleague) asked if I would be interested in doing the part. Having been away from the theater and lights for at least 10+ years-thought would give it a go.
3. Have you worked with Hillbarn Theater before?
I personally have not -however -when I proposed to my wife (Wow -back in 1974) she was performing as Belle Poutrine in Hillbarn’s production of “Little Me” I should check to see if there is a poster still kicking around?
4. What do you think the audience will be discussing on their way home after seeing 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee?
Hopefully it will be something to the affect… They just saw one of the best Ensemble production in a long while. The cast is amazingly talented-and I’m humbled to just be a part of it.
5. When did you discover your love for theater?
Need to go back to when-at 7-I played Baby Bear-at a local park gymnasium. Once I got laughs I remember thinking-I want to do this for a living.
6. What was your favorite and Most memorable roles you played and why?
I have been fortunate to have so many to choose-but if I have to pick my favorite roles I have to say CC Baxter in Promises Promises. Most rewarding roles is when you can break the 3rd wall-and this show is loaded with them. As to memorable even though I’ve worked with Jean Stapleton and Chita Rivera it was playing Older Patrick in Mame directed by unknown at the time Kenny Ortega-many years later he would become the Director of such movies as Dirty Dancing and Disney’s High School Musical.
7. Do you have any wacky rituals you do before curtain call.
No not really. I just know by curtain call time the butterflies are gone so I can enjoy the finale and curtain call.
8. What is your dream role?
This will sound crazy but since I’ve done the role of the Padre in “Man of La Mancha” twice I’ve always wanted to play Sancho in same show. If I got it wouldn’t mine doing show again.
9. What is the one thing you are incredibly proud of ?
Simple-it is my family-where all three of us just enjoy performing.
10. What is the one fact or fun thing we don’t know about you?
Again not necessarily theater related but I’m a sports stats fanatic.
My life wants to have nothing to do with it she simply says Call at friend and discuss. Is anyone interested.
