Today, we shine the spotlight on Molly Zwiebach, who plays the role of Shprintze (one of Golde and Tevye’s youngest daughters) in our upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof!
Molly is a 12-year-old 7th grader at Borel Middle School. The is her debut performance with Hillbarn Theatre and she is so thrilled to be reliving the traditions of her ancestors. Some of Molly’s other theater credits include Shrek with Borel Drama (Young Fion) and Willy Wonka with Pied Piper Players (Violet Beauregarde). Molly also dances on four competitive dance teams at Dance Mode Studio. She is so grateful to the Fiddler team for giving her this amazing opportunity.
1. Have you performed at Hillbarn Theatre before? If so, what shows?
This is my first time performing at Hillbarn. I am really excited for the shows to begin. It has been an amazing learning experience.
2. What do you have in common with your character, Shprintze?
Well, let’s see, Shprintze has a little sister who she looks after, and I try to look after my little sister. She is Jewish and so am I. I feel like I could have lived her life if I had been born in this time period. She also helps out her mom a lot and I do too!
3. What should the audience look forward to in this show?
The audience will LOVE the Russian dancing and the bottle dancing. But most important, bring tissues, you will need them.
4. What do you think the audience will be discussing on their way home after seeing Fiddler On the Roof?
I think some audience members will discuss how different the challenges were in life back then versus what they are today. Other people may be talking about how it’s the best production of Fiddler on the Roof that they have ever seen!! I hope so.
5. When did you discover your love for the theatre?
My parents have been taking me to see shows ever since I was really little. But I only discovered my love for being on stage two years ago. When I stopped being a competitive gymnast, I performed in my first big show which was Shrek with Pied Piper Players. I just loved being on the stage and I have not stopped since.
6. What is your favorite and most memorable role you ever played? Why?
I think that the most memorable role for me was playing Violet Beaureguard in Willy Wonka. I love doing accents, so speaking with a southern accent was fun and I loved blowing up into a blueberry every night. I got asked a lot about how I did that.
7. If you could pick one actor/actress on Broadway to perform with, who would it be? Why?
I would love to perform with Idina Menzel. Her voice is incredible and I would love to learn how to belt out a song like she does.
8. What is one thing you are incredibly proud of?
I am really proud of the Kids Dance event I created through Cycle for Survival 3 years ago. Kids dance their hearts out and all the money they raise goes directly to rare cancer research. I am hoping to beat all my fundraising records this year.
9. What is one fact or fun thing that we don’t know about you?
One fun fact about me is that I got to perform with Fab 5 gymnasts after they returned from the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Don’t miss your chance to see Molly Zweiback in Fiddler On the Roof, December 3 -20, at the historic Hillbarn Theatre in Foster City.
