Don’t miss LeighAnn Cannon as Chava in Fiddler On The Roof, December 3-20 at Hillbarn Theatre in Foster City

Today, we shine the spotlight on LeighAnn Cannon,  who plays the role of Chava in our upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof!

1. What do you have in common with your character, Chava?
Chava and I both like to dream big and try to push the limits of our situations. I really admire how she stands up for what she believes to be right — despite the pressure from others — and I’d like to think I do the same.

2. What made you audition for Fiddler on the Roof?
I’ve always loved how strong all the female characters are in this show. I found it inspiring that all the daughters follow their hearts and end up with the non-traditional men they love, rather than those their community believe they should. I also just love the music from Fiddler on the Roof, it’s a classic I’ve grown up with.

3. What should the audience look forward to in this show?
The audience should look forward to a very emotionally driven performance by the cast. Our director, Dan Demers, really helped us to dig deep into the heart of this story to understand and make it real for ourselves, and I think you can see it in our work. The connections seen and felt between actors in this production is beautiful.

4. What do you think the audience will be discussing on their way home after seeing Fiddler On the Roof?
I’m hoping many audience members will be discussing how timeless this piece is. It may take place in 1905, but many of the issues dealt with in the show are ones that we still deal with today in 2015, ranging from family problems to the pogroms.

5. Have you performed at Hillbarn Theatre before?
Yes, this is actually my second time performing at Hillbarn. The first time was last winter when I portrayed Katherina Cavalieri in Amadeus. It was lovely!

6. When did you discover your love for the theatre?
My mom says I was always a theatrical child. I had signed up to take part in the talent show at my elementary school, and took the whole thing very seriously. My best friend and I would rehearse with her mom every day after school until we were perfect. Once I got on the stage for the show, I just felt things click into place. After that, my mom signed me up for local children’s theater and I never stopped performing.

7. What is your favorite and most memorable role you ever played?  Why?
During my senior year of college, I had the privilege of playing the title role inTennessee Williams’s Hello, From Bertha. It was the first time I had been in a show where I did not leave the stage once I walked onto it. The monologues Bertha had were the longest I’ve ever performed. It was a wonderful challenge and so much fun to work on.

8. If you could pick one actor/actress on Broadway to perform with, who would it be? Why?
Oh man, that’s a tough one, but I’d have to say Megan Mullally. I think she’s one of the funniest people alive. Her voice is beautiful. I would love to work off her comedic energy.

8. What is one fact or fun thing that we don’t know about you?
I am an expert at making silly faces and binge watching Netflix.
