Rachel Young headshotToday, we shine the spotlight on Rachel Young, who is a featured dancer in our upcoming production of Sweet Charity.

Rachel Young makes her way to the stage for her debut in Sweet Charity! She has been dancing in the Bay Area since she was 5, where dance has evolved as her passion in life. She received her B.A. in Dance Performing Arts & Communication Studies at SFSU, dancing with their company and performing at the America College Dance Festival with schools from all over the West Coast. In her free time, you can catch her at the gym lifting weights preparing for future crossfit competitions this coming year, dance breaks are necessary as always.

What do you think the audience will be discussing on their way home after seeing Sweet Charity?
I think the audience will be raving about how hilarious and incredibly charming the cast was. I am in awe of how talented these actors are and I am fortunate enough to be working along side of them.

When did you discover your love for the theatre?
Well I am VERY new to the theatre world, meaning this is my first big debut in a theatre performance. I have danced in the Bay Area my entire life so performing in front of people is second nature for me. I am so excited to be working with such well rounded experienced cast!
How did you get started in theatre?
Since preforming in Annie at the age of 9 as an orphan, this is my first big theatre performance. This has been a bucket list of mine to preform on stage as a dancer, and the fact that I have a role in Sweet Charity is quite mind blowing and a whole new experience in itself.

What do you love about performing on stage?
The thrill and excitement of it all! I love being in my own world when I dance and I just let the movements take over me and enjoy every moment of it.

What is your favorite and most memorable role you ever played? Why?
Well given that this IS my first role, Sweet Charity it is! This has been such a great environment to be around and to really challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone.
If you could pick one actor/actress to preform with on Broadway, who would it be?
I am a huge fan of Julianne Hough and her spunky, bright personality that shines on stage, so she would be amazing to dance with and such an inspiration to my goals as a dancer. I have always enjoyed Bob Fosse and his style of technique in dance. It would be a dream of mine to have worked with him.
Do you have any wacky rituals you do before curtain call?
I literally let all the wiggly womps and the zip zorps come out of me and shake it like a salt shaker! I breathe in the exhilaration and I let out of all of my fears and soak up every happy moment that is happening around me.
What is one thing you are incredibly proud of?
The one thing that I am incredibly proud of is the cast of Sweet Charity! I am so proud of every person apart of this play. It has developed into this masterpiece and being able to be apart of it, is incredibly inspiring and motivating for me to reach for my own goals in life.
What is one fact of fun thing of special/hidden talent that we don’t know about you?
I can recite the entire series of Friends. It has been my favorite show since the beginning and hands down, the best show in the world! I also write upside down. I don’t think its a talent, but people are mind blown when they see me write!!
