Doug GreerToday, we shine the spotlight on Doug Greer, who is a featured dancer and part of the ensemble in our upcoming production of  Sweet Charity.

Doug is ecstatic to be performing in his second show at Hillbarn! When not waiting for elevators and selling ice cream in Sweet Charity, Doug likes watching disgusting amounts of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, poorly belting showtunes in his car, and getting lost on walks throughout the Bay Area. He’d like to thank his friends and family for always supporting him (even when they probably shouldn’t).

What inspired you to accept a role in Sweet Charity?
I had such an incredible time in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ so when they asked me to do Sweet Charity it was pretty much a no brainer.

What do you think the audience will be discussing on their way home after seeing Sweet Charity?
I think they will be laughing hysterically as they remember the 100’s of hilarious lines and jokes in the show.

Not only are you one of the amazing dancers in Sweet Charity but you also have a small part as an ice cream vendor in one of the scenes. What kind of ice cream flavor would you be and why?
Definitely Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food. There’s a lot going on in there but it’s still pretty good :).

Who would you most like to take out for ice cream?
Katharine McPhee. (Look her up I promise she’s famous…)
When did you discover your love for the theatre?
It was definitely when I watched the MTV Broadcast of Legally Blonde. I had very little exposure to musical theater and that was the first taste of Broadway I had in my life. I had so much fun watching it and from there I was pretty obsessed.

How did you get started in theatre?
We had some family friends who were involved in one of the local community theaters in San Mateo who encouraged me to get involved and I ended up loving it. It was a production of Alice in Wonderland with chess pieces instead of playing cards. I had to wear all white with 70s style jeans and it was probably the least flattering costume I have warn in my entire life.

What do you love about performing on stage?
I love the rehearsal process. You get to come in not knowing any of the music, choreography, blocking, etc and really challenge yourself to master it all. Obviously the performances are wonderful and exhilarating, but there’s just something about the rehearsal process that you can’t beat.

IF you could wake up tomorrow and be in the body of someone else, who would you pick and what would you do?
I don’t think I would pick a specific person. I would just want to wake up in the body of someone who lives in a country I’ve never been to and just spend the day exploring the city they live in.

What is one item you can’t live without?
My phone. Such a #millennial, I know.

What is one fact or fun thing or special/hidden talent that we don’t know about you?
In college I was in an All Disney A Capella group, which is embarrassing but was also one of the most incredible things I ever had the privilege of doing.

Don’t miss your chance to see Doug Greer, in Sweet Charity May 5-29, at the historic Hillbarn Theatre in Foster City. Tickets available at
