Feb. 7, 2026 – April 12, 2026 (10 sessions total) / 10:15am – 11:30am
Welcome to Spotlight Studio! This 10 session workshop is for young performers (ages 8-12) who are ready to develop foundational acting, voice, and movement skills. Students work together in age-appropriate scenes or mini-productions, learning rehearsal discipline, teamwork, and the joy of bringing stories to life on stage so that each child grows in confidence and creativity while building the focus, collaboration, and performance skills that set the stage for future success whether on or offstage.
The class concludes with a free showcase for friends and family and a certificate of completion for our students.
Sample Class outline (subject to change):
Week 1 – Welcome and Ensemble Building
Today we’ll build trust, community and enthusiasm! Through a series of fun theater games we’ll learn each other’s names, work together toward a common goal and introduce The Actor’s Toolbox (voice, body, imagination).
Week 2 – Imagination & Play
Today we’ll explore our creativity and imagination through improvisation with games like Yes, And…, Story Circle, and our favorite: Magic Rocks!
Week 3 – Voice for the Stage
Today we’ll learn how to use our voices clearly and confidently through exercises that explore breathing and projection techniques as well as call and response games that explore volume and emotion!
Week 4 – Movement & Physical Storytelling
Today we’ll dive deeper into how our bodies tell stories. We’ll play games like Follow the Leader, Character Walks (slow giant, fast mouse, sneaky cat) and we’ll create a group scene using only movement.
Week 5 – Character Building
Today we learn how to bring a character to life. We’ll use costume pieces to inspire us and students will ‘interview’ each other, asking simple questions about their characters and creating improvised scenes using the characters they’ve created. .
Week 6 – Storytelling Onstage
Today we’ll introduce short scripts and assign scene partner work. Students will begin telling stories together using both scripted lines and improvisation.
Week 7 – Putting It Together
Today we’ll apply what we’ve learned and begin learning how to rehearse a play together including memorization tricks, stage presence, staying focused during rehearsal and of course, plenty of ensemble games to reinforce teamwork!
Week 8 – Rehearsal Skills
It takes discipline, focus and commitment to put on a show! Today we’ll run our scenes, explore staging basics and integrate basic props and costume pieces for our final presentation.
Week 9: Final Preparations
Today we’ll focus on making sure everyone feels prepared for our final class showcase presentation. We’ll run through our entire program from start to finish and provide some problem solving for nerves, vocal projection and pacing.
Week 10: Showcase & Celebration
Today is the Big Day! In our final class, we’ll do a class warm-up, play a favorite theater game or two and then present the scenes we’ve worked on during the session. After the showcase, we’ll present certificates of completion to students and enjoy a brief celebration of all we’ve accomplished together!
