You don’t have to be pursuing a career in theatre to take your craft seriously.
Hillbarn’s Adult Conservatory offers classes, workshops, and masterclasses for adults who want to learn something new, sharpen a skill, return to a creative practice they’ve missed, or simply spend some time making theatre with other people.
Some of our students are working actors. Some haven’t performed since college or high school. Some have always wondered what it would be like to take an acting or improv class and are finally ready to give it a try.
Wherever you’re starting, you’re welcome in the room.
Adult Conservatory programming is designed to fit into an adult life.
Rather than asking you to commit to a full year of training, we offer a changing menu of focused opportunities throughout the season:
Dig into a particular discipline over several weeks, with time to practice, experiment, and build your skills.
Focused, short-term opportunities to explore a specific skill, technique, or area of theatre.
Learn directly from professional artists and guest instructors who bring their particular expertise into the room.
Offerings may include acting, improvisation, voice and speech, musical theatre, dance and movement, audition technique, stage combat, and other areas of performance and theatre-making.
You can care deeply about getting better without needing to prove that you belong.
Our adult programs are taught by working artists and experienced educators who create rooms where people can take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, and do meaningful work together.
Come because you want to strengthen your craft. Come because you miss performing. Come because you’ve always wanted to try it.
You don’t need a résumé. You need curiosity, a sense of fun, and a willingness to work.

Actors never really finish training. Neither do dancers, singers, improvisers—or curious humans.
Whether theatre is your profession, your passion, or something you’ve always wanted to explore, there’s room to keep growing here.
Come play. Come work. Come learn something new.
